IMPACT Grant - To Lemon Hill

In 2013, I and three other colleagues developed “To Lemon Hill,” a mentorship and tutoring program for Syrian refugees in Izmir, Turkey. With a grant from The Center for Art and Public Life, the four of us used food gatherings to create safe community spaces in Izmir’s Lemon Hill neighborhood from which to address the needs of the refugee community. The tutoring program emerged out of these gatherings and continues to this day at Gelisim Koleji, a grade school in Izmir.

The Center for Art and Public Life awards the IMPACT Grant, which enables interdisciplinary teams to develop and realize social innovations through the funding of their creative practice.
